Dear Mr. Martinu:
I have been given to understand that money was raised here locally to commission you to write your Second Symphony, which we are to program at our concert performances of October 28th and 30th. Therefore, I am writing to ask you to give us the sole performing rights for the 1943–1944 season, as well as the first opportunity to record this composition if we should desire. As stated before, we will, of course, want to have the first performance of the composition on the air.
The reason I am writing and asking for the sole performing right is that we may want to perform this work in various cities while we are on our tours in February and March of 1944.
Trusting that I may hear from you at your earliest convenience, I am
Very cordially yours,
Manager
