Content and physical description
ContentErnest Roth realizes that in the last letter (signed BH 1956-01-02) he did not bring Bohuslav Martinů very good news. He thanks Martinů for understanding the difficulties they have in B&H, however he believes BM will find satisfaction with other publishers.
He specifies the form of their contract with Artia, which is now their exclusive representative in all countries behind the Iron Curtain and for all Martinů's work they have published. B&H is then the exclusive representative of Artie in all countries, for all works that have been and will be published in Prague. B&H has already delivered the necessary materials to Prague, to the Czech Music Fund, where their mutual friend, Šebánek, is now in charge of them. A mutual accounting system now operates between B&H and Artia. BM will therefore receive a bill from both sides.
ER does not know what happened to JULIETTA in Wiesbaden, but the original plan apparently came to an end and ER is now trying to find other options. Scala will not perform LOCANDIERA, so ER must find another option for that as well. ER judges that the opera is too long for a short opera and too short for a full-length opera. ER asks if BM can give him the vocal parts of the third act of this opera again.
ER is glad that BM is returning to Europe and hopes for their meeting. The manuscripts of the works they did not publish have already been returned to David Adams [inscriptions: returned by Mr. Rosen 25.1.1956].
