Content and physical description
ContentBohuslav Martinů completed TRE RICERCARI for the Venice Festival [Biennale di Venezia], which will take place in September [the premiere took place on 6 September 1938]. He communicates this to Paul Sacher in case he considers the piece for his concert. BM might book him for a second performance after the Venice premiere. Unfortunately there are (for BKO) unpleasant instruments such as 1 flute, 2 oboes, 2 bassoons and 2 trumpets, but there are also more pleasant instruments - e.g. two pianos - and very pleasant instruments such as 3 violins and 3 cellos which can be doubled. The piece lasts 12 minutes. It may not suit Sacher's scoring, but BM will keep him informed about the work he is currently writing for him.
He sends his regards to the addressee and to Maja Sacher.
