Content and physical description
ContentVladimír Vaněk thanks Miloslav Rechcígl for his letter of 19 May, in which he asks for a lecture on Bohuslav Martinů. VV had been friends with BM since 1924 and two years ago [!] BM was in Rome for a whole year. VV will send an abstract of the lecture soon. VV does not write English, so he will have to have the lecture translated. Such a lecture also requires some work, evaluation of the work, accurate data, which takes time. Could VV give some contribution to the expenses related to the preparation of the paper? Do they need a photo of BM to print? They can't count on VV attending the congress in person because VV has neither the time nor the resources to make the trip to America. BM had bitter memories of his compatriots in America, somehow they supposedly ignored him and even suspected him of contact with Prague, of which VV has a sad proof [see letter to VanV 1957-11-04 and VanV 1957-12-16]. BM was not seduced to return, although he was attacked in every way. What hurt him the most was that at the opening ceremony of the Lidice village in the USA all kinds of music was played, but Martin's symphonic poem LIDICE was not, BM was not even invited, nobody remembered him.
