Content and physical description
ContentShe returned from Prague, saw six operas and a ballet. She talked about the music of Bohuslav Martinů with [Jaromír and Anna] Špáček, and they share the same opinion as Vladimír Vaněk about the work of Mr [Šafránek]. It is a pity that VV cannot go to the USA. The book by [Miloš Šafránek] is translated into English, and the MŠ is described there as "the only authorized BM biographer". ChM's lawyer has been fighting with MS since last year over MS publishing BM's correspondence without ChM's permission. MŠ has a bad reputation in Prague.
ChM will be happy if VV comes to Vieux-Moulin. There he will be able to hear a recording of the GREEK PASSIONS performed by [Alberto] Mantelli and [Radiotelevisione italiana S.p.A.]. It is a pity that VV missed this opera in Perugia, it was a tremendous success.
She is making her plans, she will not be in Vieux-Moulin all the time now, a varied cultural programme awaits her - concerts in Nice (e.g. the Czech Trio on 5 August) and a festival in Lucerne, she will be in Vichy for a while.
She did not see [Václav Hanna] Jarek or his brother VV in Prague. She met [Jan] Zrzavy, he was returning from his native Okrouhlice. JZ would not stay long in Venice.
At the moment she is missing many manuscripts, editors have them - she always has to fight with editors to get the manuscripts back when she finishes. Harry Halbreich is in Brussels writing a book on Bohuslav Martinů and preparing a catalogue of his compositions. There is another book in English by Brian Large. The manuscripts in Zurich are protected by copyright (SUISA).
The Russians did not play BM, they changed it to Bartók - ChM was angry about this. Rudolf Firkušný is in Naples. He is writing [Jan] Brázda's address in Cannes. Mr. Brázda likes the quiet life in the mountains, that's why he goes to the Alps every year.
He looks forward to seeing you.
