ContentVladimír Vaněk writes to Ricordi publishing house as his friend, Bohuslav Martinů, sent his opera [ARIADNE, H 370] for their opera competition which was held in Venice [sic; see letter VanV 1959-01-29] last year. As the competition is anonymous, BM cannot ask himself about its outcome. Having received no information so far, he would still like to know a little about how the competition went and possibly receive his opera back. VV would be very grateful if Ricordi would let him know if the competition took place and who received the first prize.

Messieurs,



mon ami Bohuslav Martinu a envoyé pour Votre concours des opéras que auriat du se tenir à Venise l'année passée un opéra – et comme le concours est anonyme il ne peut pas démander lui-meme sur l'issue de ce concours. N'ayant recu aucun signe de vie jusqu'à présent il voudrait quand mem savoir un peu comment le concours est allé et recevoir le cas écheant son opéra de retour.



Je Vous serais bien reconnaissant si Vous voudriez bien m'en donner de nouvelles, si le concours a eu lieu et qui a recu le premier prix.
