Content and physical description
ContentBohuslav Martinů writes a letter in a deliberately comic, archaic, soaring style, thanking the Vaneks for the postcard from Castello di Punta Ale. It is very hot in Rome, so they do not go out during the day and listen to the radio. He hardly handles the mail, as there are few letters; he has only received a message from 'Professor Russky' who doubts the possibility of an opera [it is not clear what he means], as the police are not a very lyrical subject. He has no news from Genoa. BM wishes the Vaneks to enjoy their stay at the seaside and looks forward to seeing them when they are back in Rome.
