| Content | Bohuslav Martinů thanks Marcel Mihalovici for his sonata [No.2, Op.45]. According to him, MM composed this sonata when he was younger and not yet familiar with the means of dodecaphony. He thinks the work will be well received by critics. BM will leave the sonata on the table so that the dedication can be seen. It would be good if they could get together, have a private premiere and have some fun. BM has had a major artistic disappointment. He wasn't good at composing, so he went to the beach to see the seagulls. It didn't help the opera work. When he finished Act 1, he admitted that he couldn't do it, and although he liked the story a lot, he couldn't continue. So he started looking for new material and decided to stick to the "old repertoire", i.e. the books he had in his home library. In the end, he chose [Carlo] Goldoni's play La Locandiera as the model [for the opera MIRANDOLINA]. He works with the Italian text, even though he does not know the language. He met no one except Pierre Fournier, who gave an excellent concert. Occasionally he hears his compositions on the radio, which pleases him. If MM ever meets Monique (hopefully she is not abroad all the time), he should say hello to her. |
