Content and physical description
ContentJan Novák writes full of his impressions from Saturday's concert of his wife Eliška, whom he praises and admires very much [EN played Martinů's FANTASIA AND TOCCATA]. He thanks you for sending the 3rd PIANO CONCERT, but asks you to send him the score, as there are many mistakes in the piano part. JN is also thinking of making a version for two pianos if he hasn't already. Eliška Nováková seems to be slowly becoming an expert on Martinů's works. Checked this out again yesterday when listening to the CONCERTINA [FOR PIANO AND ORCHESTRA?] from the radio broadcast. It's also a great work and KS does not heed Martinů's attitude.
Thanks for the invitation to the Thunderbird [apparently accommodation in the Spindleruv Mlyn area], just worried how he will feel in the presence of so many cultured people. But Eliška will certainly enjoy it, she likes such trips. She also sends the programme and the review from Sunday's Work. Before they left for the chat, JN read one more disgraceful remark in Svobodny Slovo, where Martinů is classified as a work of "technical character". If JN had met this writer that evening, he would have smashed his mouth or kicked his ass to the spike. It's probably [Ivan] Petrželka, son of the old Šelprdelka [Vilém Petrželka], so we know where the wind is blowing from. Somebody's still got that Martin in their stomach.

A letter from Eliška Nováková: Very much looking forward to the 3rd. PIANO CONCERT. Honza [Novák] promised her a new gown for it, so she doesn't know if JN will have to sell the cottage. She is looking forward to the Thunderstorm and hopes KS will give her a ski lesson.
