ContentStanislav Mojžíš-Lom replies to Jindřich Honzl's letter of 18 January [1938]. It is true that JH justified his request for a fee for directing JULIETTE on the grounds that the work would occupy him for two months, but the amount should nevertheless be binding on both parties - even if the time needed to complete the work turned out to be longer than expected. Negotiating an additional fee would have been difficult, since even the agreed amount had to be approved in advance by the Ministry of Education and National Enlightenment, as it was considerably higher than the usual rate. The opera administrator, Prof. Talich, is of the opinion that, if circumstances beyond the will do not stand in the way, the opera can be completed by the end of February. According to the director's opinion, based on a preliminary conversation with Mr. Chalabala, the dramaturge, the premiere could be on March 3 of this year. SL asks to discuss the matter further with Mr. Dramaturg Chalabala and to drop the demand for additional fee.
