Content and physical description
ContentBohuslav Martinů replies to Jindřich Honzl's remarks concerning JULIETTE. He disagrees with Muzika's proposal to have the word "bonjour" translated. He also comments on the translation of the names of the main characters Juliette and Michel. BM is pleased with JH's reports of Talich's work on pronunciation. He asks for the accentuation of the sung words into natural speech which does not lose the musical basis. He wants to preserve the lyrical aspect of the work above all, not the dramatic (except in Act II). JULIETTA will certainly be performed in Brno and Olomouc would also like to perform it, he hopes JH will help him there too. A telegram has arrived from Prague that the premiere will be on 19 Feb, BM hopes that this is favourable for JH because of the Liberation Theatre. JH asks if something can be done with Nezval to invite Neveux to Prague, surely Šafránek who is in Prague would help, will write to him. They will arrive about a week before the premiere, very much looking forward to seeing JH, the set, costumes etc.
