Content and physical description
ContentBohuslav Martinů thanks Marcel Mihalovici for his illegible letter, which confirms his sense of form. He is on the beach and praises his stay here, which is a paradise, except that he has not found a piano to rent. He had to buy one for a modest sum, so the sound of the instrument is also very modest. Annoyingly, he needs a piano to compose his pieces and admits that if he were a dodecaphonist he would not need an instrument. BM participated in the strike and therefore wrote no notes. He is also going to do battle with French, which he finds very annoying. He hasn't started yet and is expecting trouble, preferring to write in Czech where the accent is always on the first syllable and so he can't get it wrong. In any case, he will get to work on composing the opera [A PLEA AGAINST THE UNKNOWN] as soon as this letter is written. He sends his regards to Monique and George and also to Tibor [Harsányi] and [Mayka?].
