Content and physical description
ContentVítězslava Kaprálová asks where to write to Vítězslava Kaprálová Sr. if she is still in Three Wells. The letters [from Miloš Šafránek] were addressed to Bohuslav Martinů, but they were warned that it was very expensive [in the USA], although they would be pleased if VK and BM came there. VK might have gone there as a substitute conductor for J. [Jaroslav Ježek] with V+W. Also, perhaps they could get some commissions from Hollywood for film music, which they and BM would do together. All in all, they would work there together with joint finances. VK plans to ask about the possibility of getting an American scholarship [to study at the Yulliard School in NY]. She would like to try it for a year to prove she can take care of herself - which BM would laugh at. But she's still waiting for the results of the meeting, so she's not sure she's decided to go. Lots of people go to America, only "that friend of mine" [Edvard Benes] goes to England. BM asks Václav Kaprál whether it would not be enough to send only the piano excerpt of JULIETTA when applying for the Smetana Prize, because it is too risky to send the score. For Viktor Kripner's birthday, she set one of his poems to music, which moved him very much, and so she will do the whole cycle, which [Růžena] Herlingová will then sing at a concert. VK goes on to describe the times spent together with friends and who all is now in Paris. People talk her out of returning home. Stanislav Novak is said to be expelled from the conservatory because of his wife's Jewish [origin]. VK is going to write a violin sonatina to make herself financially better off. BM wrote the Cello Sonata for this purpose.
