Content and physical description
ContentVítězslava Kaprálová had a lot of travel arrangements [from her stay in Monte Carlo], because the colony refused her a contribution of 700 fr. and so she had to telegraph Bohuslav Martinů for 500 fr. for her return trip. She left [Monaco] on Wednesday [18 May] and did not stop anywhere [as she had originally planned]. On 2 June she will conduct Bohuslav Martinů's CONCERTINO PRO CLAVESIN, but she has not yet seen the score. It's supposed to be for a smaller cast of about 10 people, with the quartet played by the Calvets and Josef Páleníček on piano. It was arranged by BM, the Consul and Rudolf Firkušný. Mother is to send her the frakt as soon as possible.
Today she is going to Triton, where she will talk to JP and RF and wants to apologise to [Charles] Munch for not going to school anymore, because on 14 or 15 June she is going to England, where she has rehearsals with the [BBC Orchestra on 16 and 17 June; performance of her Military Symphony on 17 May 1938 at the ISCM Festival]. Unfortunately, BM had written to him before VK asked him to accompany her to London, but he refused Lidovky [to become festival officer] because they would not pay for the journey. So now he is negotiating again at VK's request to be able to write there. Václav Kapral should also write to BM asking him to accompany her, VíK will need him there. He writes to [Alois] Hába about paying for the journey from Paris to London and from there back to Brno. She would probably also go home with BM and they would stop on the way at the [All-Sokol] meeting [19 June-6 July 1938]. There is a lot of writing about Czechoslovakia in France now. The bells [Variations on the bells of the church of St-Etienne-du-Mont] will probably be published by [Alphonse] Leduc, he liked them very much and was surprised when BM told him that a girl had written them.
She had been invited to the Consul of the Double and to the Opocenes for a reception. She sends BM's regards.
