Content and physical description
ContentRichard F. French is sorry that the letter of 27 June 1946 to Bohuslav Martinů is not clear. The contract of 8 January 1946 contained two concertos [CONCERT FOR VIOLONCELLO AND ORCHESTRA No. 2 and CONCERT FOR TWO PIANOS AND ORCHESTRA] and two short pieces which were never sent. The letter of June this year therefore modifies this agreement with BM, who is now under no obligation to compose these two pieces. The new agreement they entered into last year defined Associated Music Publishers' obligations to pay royalties from the agreements now in place. That agreement is, of course, in effect. The only consequence is the exemption from the obligation to send the two orchestral works. RF does not recall any discussion regarding the return of royalties as defined in the old agreement. It is clear that the amount BM would have paid out in royalties over so many years is approximately equal to the same amount of money that was provided directly at the time the works were taken under the contract. Therefore, they agreed that BM would be paid the normal royalties that were accrued on the sale and performance of the songs.
