Content and physical description
ContentJaromír Š[paček] writes to Charlotte Martinů late. On behalf of "Nina" [Anna Špacka?], he thanks her for [the medicine] Adelphane, which arrived yesterday by registered mail without the need for further approval from the [Czech] health centre.
The letter from ChM came to them about ten days ago. JS immediately called Dilia to ask if they had received the letter from ChM. He did not reach Zdeněk Pechold ["Docteur P."] or his secretary until Tuesday and learned that the letter had arrived safely. JŠ asked Pechold to take care of the contract with Prague [Czechoslovak] Television. They have no problem in giving up G. L. [referring apparently to Miloš Šafránek and his translation of JULIETTY, see ŠpaJ 1967-09-28] JŠ believes that Georges [Neveux] paved the way for [Šafránek?] - it was he who accompanied him in Dili in his search for the French text of JULIETTY. ChM should occasionally point out to GN that he does not wish [MS] to have any involvement in the matter.
On Monday the 31st [10], JS and [AS] went to Morina to lay flowers on the graves. They spent one night in their cottage. JS describes the details and comments on the weather.
It is sad that ChM has to look after her aunt [Angèle Quennehen], and her children are not interested in her. ChM should take care of her bronchial tubes and not overexert herself. JS is in a similar position.
The writer called "Père Zaza" [?] and wished him a happy 76th birthday. He is still in Prague, but the repairs to his apartment are not yet complete. He is not likely to go to Greece, there are complications connected with the new political regime. Maybe he'll go to Paris.
JŠ gave the enclosed letter to "Anna" [Anna Špačková?]. She hasn't finished the floor yet, but already has glass in the windows.
She hasn't heard from K.S. [Karel Šebánek?] for a long time. He is working on a bibliography of old Czech composers. JŠ calls him and asks him to remind him [at Supraphon] about the book [ChM] My Life with Bohuslav Martinů. He tells them that ChM has asked him for an update on his manuscript. They promised him that they would contact Aria, who would publish a French version. Presumably [KS] knows the person with whom JS was dealing and could support the request. It needs to be repeatedly reminded.
He will also call the person who is responsible for the distribution of Czech records in France and inform him about Marc Pincherl.
He will soon visit Zdeněk Pechold. He hands him the first letter from ChM and asks him to draw up the contract quickly. He is at least pleased in the confusion that he has expressed Charlotte's opinion satisfactorily. He will also discuss with ZP an increase in Eleuthèr Lovreglio's remuneration. If it is paid in crowns, there will probably be no difficulty.
JS regrets that ChM is worried about his aunt Angèle Quennehen and Mrs Colette. Hopefully everything will be sorted out.
