Content and physical description
ContentThis is a supplement to the introduction by Jaroslav Mihule, which refers to Bohuslav Martinů's SMITH QUARTET No.4. BM composed it on commission from his patron [Čestmir Puce] in 1937 and a year later it was performed privately by the Quatuor Lejeune ensemble for the first time. The title page of the manuscript was decorated by the painter František Kupka. The manuscript volume was in the library until 1956, when it was discovered by Miloš Šafránek. The first public performance of the work took place on 15 October 1960 in Donaueschingen by the Novák Quartet.
