Content and physical description
ContentJan Novák writes that the lessons with [Bohuslav] Martinů always cheer him up, as they depressed him at first. He had a lesson after a long time, brought 6 pages of his quartet and 4 remained. JN also stayed for lunch. After next holiday he will probably commute to Prague for lessons and BM agrees. JN will absolutely not live in Prague and will get a piano duo with Eliska Novakova, which BM liked. BM is writing something for two pianos at the moment [THREE CZECH DANCES] but he didn't say he was dedicating it to them. But when he hears them, he'll hurry up with the dedication. BM is writing a PIANO CONCERT [No. 3] for Ruda [Firkušný], it will be a clog. BM played him even the failed beginnings. JN thought BM was pouring everything out of his sleeve, but he sits on each motif and works on it until he gets what he wants. It's very instructive.
