| Content | The proposal returns to the request of Bohuslav Martinů [KPR 1930-04-27], which [Jindřich] Říha from the Office of the President of the Republic had already reflected in [KPR 1930-10-09 and MŠ 1930-10-09]. The JR summarises the earlier granting of financial support to BM and his current situation, where BM is dependent on an irregular income and his wife's salary. He mentions persons who advocate the payment of support - Dr [Oskar] Butter, [Jan] Masaryk, the embassy in Paris [Miloš Šafránek]. For a long time, the DG hesitated to submit a positive proposal to the President, because BM's foreign stay seemed too long to him and, moreover, the composer himself refused to be provided for at home. He is also of the opinion that other capable artists would like to go abroad. However, on the basis of recent reports that the composer is doing really badly and that all his work is concentrated on a new opera for the National Theatre, the JG recommends that the President contribute frs 5000 for this year, to be paid in smaller sums. The granting of this grant does not, however, settle BM's future fate, and JR is therefore of the opinion that BM should return home after a year and accept the place at the Conservatoire which has been offered to him. |
