Content and physical description
ContentJindřich Honzl thanks you for your letter of 26 January 1938, which shows that the fee for directing the play JULIETTE was not fixed for an indefinite period, but for two months. Work began in mid-December 1937, so that by the end of February it will have been two and a half months since the National Theatre became available. Both he and the Liberated Theatre would have been happy to accommodate the needs of the National Theatre if the premiere of JULIETTE had been on 3 March 1938, as he had been told in his letter. However, Zdeněk Chalabala corrected him about the theatre's disposition, according to which the premiere would not be until 16 March 1938. This brings a close clash with the preparation of the premiere for the Liberated Theatre, which is to be around 20 March 1938. Jiří Voskovec and Jan Werich told JH that they could not miss his directorial work in March. Therefore, JH kindly asks them to note that he cannot devote as much time to rehearsals at the National Theatre as he has done so far. This is very inconvenient for him and his work and he will try to make arrangements to accommodate JULIETTE rehearsals. He has made many preparations and would like to have everything ready in February if he could with the scenery of the technical rehearsals completely ready. So far he has only had one technical exam. J. M. Gottlieb informed him that the others could not be set for the rehearsals for Hedy, Mother with regard to collective agreements, etc. JH asks for a voucher to be issued to release the stage for technical rehearsals on JULIET with the finished scenery at a mutually convenient time. He hopes to come to an agreement with Václav Talich on everything else and regrets that the clash of two Prime Ministers does not allow him to conduct his work without hindrance.
A note (presumably from Rudolf Zeman) saying that the relevant trials had been arranged as JH was off.
