Content and physical description
ContentBohuslav Martinů's diary notes from his stay in Cape Cod. An introductory two-page passage of extracts from unspecified readings is followed by eight pages of notes extracted from Aldous Huxey's New Romanticism, Music in the Night and Texts and Pretexts. He also writes about the creative process, quotes Albert Einstein, and discusses the question of objective judgment. The two entries are dated 26 July 1945 and 14 August 1945. He also writes about definition, the cult of emotion, counterpoint, and quotes a number of other authors [these passages are mostly not included in Miloš Šafránek's book]. The last entry is Bohuslav Martinů's proposal to establish a Czech music publishing house based in Prague. He mentions the financial losses resulting from the need to borrow materials by Czech composers for performance in Bohemia from abroad, and mentions other advantages of establishing such an institution. He himself would be willing to leave his compositions to such a publishing house.
