| Content | Teddycka van Eeckhout offers her condolences to Charlotte Martinů. She also called the news of Bohuslav Martinů's death to Henry Piett and Janine Reding-Piette, who were saddened. They will write a letter to ChM. Friday evening JRP called TvE and asked her for a photo of BM to use for her resume of BM's life. ChM will of course receive a copy. Zdeňka Podhajská wrote to TvE that since Saturday they have been reporting BM's death on the radio and there is great sadness among the artists. Marie Pražanová is taking care of collecting all things related to BM's life from the tower of St. James Church in Polička and also from the local museum. MP will circulate all articles about BM's death from the Belgian and other press. ZP met Václav Holzknecht who is going to write TvE as he knows he has been collecting documents for years. It is certain that a biography will be published in Czechoslovakia and there will also be rallies in memory of BM. If ChM feels like it, she can write TvE about BM's last days. A friend from Nyon told her that BM died in Liestal, so he probably spent his last days in hospital. But TvE is sure that ChM was helped by the Sachers. She asks that ChM let her know in case she goes to Vieux-Moulin so that she knows what address TvE should contact her at. The director of the Prague Conservatoire [Václav Holzknecht] will go to Brussels in October and it will be he who will write the texts for the biography. Many Czechs were in contact with BM during his last days and some came to visit him, but it is possible that they too will want to know details of his last days. It is a pity that BM did not hear the premiere of PARABOL in Besançon. TvE hopes that he heard at least the June performance from Vienna and also the premiere of NONET No. 2 in Salzburg. She also called the Institut National Belge de la Radiodiffusion, but the director, Robert Wangermée, was busy. So she spoke to his representative, who took her number and promised to arrange for BM's death to be mentioned on the air. So far, no radio station or the Belgian press has mentioned BM's death. However, this may be due to the fact that the music critics were on holiday, possibly then in Edinburgh or Lucerne. TvE believes that there will be articles on the subject within 10 or 15 days. He is going to a concert at the Institut National Belge de la Radiodiffusion on Friday, where he will tell the conductor about BM's death. A lot of people died. First František Martinů, then Marie Martinů and now BM. TvE reckons that if Rudolf Firkušný goes to Europe to play in Edinburgh, he will see ChM. TvE has spoken to Mr and Mrs Absil on the phone and both are devastated by the news of BM's death. She concludes her letter by adding that she hopes ChM received her telegram of 1 Sep. |
