ContentVáclav Talich intends to stage a new opera by Bohuslav Martinů, JULIETTE, and in agreement with the composer he is counting on František Muzika as the designer and Jindřich Honzl as the director [letter addressed to both of them]. The addressees are asked to state whether they will take on this task and what minimum fee they require.
[Attached to the letter is a document with a clipping from the newspaper České slovo of 27 November 1937 announcing that JH will stage the opera BM JULIETTE together with FM and VT. Below the clipping a handwritten inquiry dated 29.11.1937 as to whether ND really had this intention, for which, however, it would first be necessary to negotiate the material conditions of cooperation between the artists mentioned. Below this text is a handwritten note by Václav Talich dated 1 December 1937, stating that the cooperation of the two artists [František Muzika and Jindřich Honzl] on the opera JULIETTA (SNÁŘ) is the wish of the BM and is welcomed by Talich. VT did not consider it necessary to resolve the matter yet, as the work was scheduled for performance in March. However, he has now swapped the date with Lulu, and so the matter is topical. He therefore asks that the fees of both workers be discussed].
