| Content | Karel Boleslav Kirák thanks Bohuslav Martinů for recommending him for a place at the Chicago Music College. KBJ, however, is bound for Roosevelt University. KBJ spoke with [Hans] Rosenwald and he told him that this was a temporary job, a substitute for [Ernst] Krenek. Although Chicago Music College is a more prestigious school than Roosevelt College, it does not have a good reputation because most of the cantors are paid on a casual basis and it is run commercially. KBJ praises Martin's Double Concerto, which was played by [Rafael] Kubelík in Chicago. KBJ has also heard the work in Prague with [Paul] Sacher, but praises Kubelík's performance more. RK's engagement in Chicago is a surprise; some critics were against it. RK performs a lot of Czech music (Smetana, Dvořák, Janáček, Míča, Martinů). By coincidence, Kubelík's closest friend from Prague, František Schwarzenberg, who teaches languages at Loyola University, is also in Chicago. |
