Content and physical description
ContentJean-Pierre Fournier sends Gregory Terian copies of two reviews concerning SONATA No, 1 FOR VIOLONCELLO AND PIANO, H 277 - one from New York Times (New York, 1948), the other from Wiener Kurier (St Moritz Festival, 1976), the review of this performance is rather formidable. Their friendship with Rafael Kubelík dates from 1947, he was like a brother to Pierre Fournier since their first appearances together (1947 Unesco concert in Paris - Prague Philharmonic Orchestra, CONCERTO FOR VIOLONCELLO AND ORCHESTRA No. 1, H 196 II; the same year, this concerto of Bohuslav Martinů and Dvořák's concerto were played by PF and RK in Prague; a list of other joint concerts follows). JPF also remembers a dinner in RK's house in Lucerne in 1965 with guests like Rudolf Firkušný and Hsien Ming Lee-Tcherepnin with her husband Alexanderem Tcherepnin - PF met them in the late 1930s; father of AT was JPL's mother's teacher of musical theory at the Saint Petersburg Conservatory. BM and his wife Charlotte Martinů visited the Fourniers at the end of the 1940s in Paris.
