Content and physical description
ContentBohuslav Martinů apologizes for his long silence, but life in New York is so intense that there is no time for letters. BM is in touch with his family in Polička, so he knows at least a little about what is going on at home. He is glad that Karel Novák liked SYMPHONY No. 3. BM also likes it, he thought of [Václav] Talich when composing it and imagined seeing everyone at home, but now there is no hope of seeing them soon. They will go to the country for Christmas, BM commuting to Princeton University for two days a week. They were in France for the holidays and BM was disappointed with the people there. KN is to put BM's article in the book about Stan [Novak]. If there is time, BM will write some more. His health is serving him and they are living well in the USA "despite it being such a capitalist country". He would like to see old friends. He has seen [Karel] Šebánek in Paris, Rudolf Firkušný lives in the USA but sees little of him, Rafael [Kubelík] is now in Chicago and is playing the Double Concert everywhere. Firkušný played the Piano Concert [No. 3] in Texas. [Jan] Löwenbach is also in the USA but they have not seen each other for a long time. [Karel Boleslav] Jirák occasionally gets in touch. There is a rush at the post office over Christmas, so BM sends a package after the holidays.
