Transcription of the letter

Dear Mr. Sacher,

We are just about to publish the “Toccata e Due Canzoni” by Martinu, and the question has arisen how the dedication to you or your orchestra should be worded. Martinu asked us to write to you to find out how you want it. I should be grateful if I could have this without delay.

Ben is resting now from the great strain of last year, and his plans are not quite settled, and changing as weeks go by. I hope he will keep your Divertimento in his mind – I mentioned it to him recently.

My impression is that one must leave it to him to find the continuation of his way without outside influences, after the latest opera, which I consider to be a landmark in his career.

                                                                               With kind regards,

                                                                                              Yours sincerely,

                                                                                              Erwin Stein
