ContentPeter Stearns calls Bohuslav Martinů because they have not seen each other for a long time and have not written to each other. He thinks of him very often. The more PS grows as a composer, the more he realizes what a good influence BM was on him. He writes to him now mainly because he has heard his CONCERTO FOR PIANO AND ORCHESTRA No. 4 (INCANTATION) performed by Rudolf Firkušný. PS is completely impressed by this work. He admires the power and beauty of the sound and expression of this work. PS is now very busy. He is writing a violin concerto and hopes it will be his finest work. He has also completed many other works. At the moment he is very fascinated by the orchestra. Carl Bamberger played his Capriccio in piccolo with the Stuttgart Radio Symphony Orchestra. This piece will also be performed this Thursday at Mannes College. In addition to his work in the library, PS teaches composition at Mannes College and will also teach music theory there next year.
