Content and physical description
ContentBohuslav Martinů interrupted his work. He has finished the first act of [COMPLAINTS AGAINST THE UNKNOWN] and is not satisfied with it. He sees that the work would be lost in the big theatre. Unfortunately, he had to cut the libretto for time reasons, so only the skeleton remained. Musically, too, it is a work for small theatre and chamber orchestra; in a large theatre the text would not be understood, and since the plot contains little action, the meaning might be completely lost. He regrets this, he likes the work but doubts its success. He wonders what chance there is of performing the opera in a small theatre. But now he must postpone it.
How is the addressee faring? BM and Charlotte Martin are well and greet Neveux [and his wife].
