Content and physical description
ContentArthur Merritt is very pleased that Harvard can look forward to at least one of the Tanglewood concerts in October for the time being. He hopes that they will be able to have more of these concerts; the Harvard Society would greatly appreciate them. AM is awaiting a reply from E. Sprague-Coolidge regarding [Felix] Khuner and his quartet.
He is currently working on arranging concerts for the symposium. They already have the scores of the works of Bohuslav Martinů [SMITH QUARTET No. 6], Walter Piston and Arnold Schoenberg, and the Walden Quartet is already studying them or will begin soon. The notes by Gian Francesco Malipiero for the second concerto have also arrived and Robert Shaw will receive them in the next few days. Paul Hindemith has informed AM that he is in the process of writing a clean copy of the piece for this concert, and AM has already engaged woodwinds to perform it. Aaron Copland is working on his a cappella piece.
William Schuman is also working on his piece. Carlos Chavez's piece is long finished. Martha Graham is rehearsing or planning it for her concert. AM also anticipates that M. Graham or Harold Spivacke are or will be handling the accompanying instrumentalists and they will be coming with her from New York. She hopes this is the case and asks ESC if she should write to Spivaske or Graham just to be sure.
