Content and physical description
ContentAnnie Friedberg sends Elisabeth Sprague-Coolidge the program for last night's Pro Arte Quartet concert. The quartet performed for the League of Composers and was a huge success [also on the program was a CONCERT FOR SM. QUARTET WITH B. Martinů ORCHESTRA]. The concert was attended by all the critics. Their reviews are short, however, as they only stayed until Darius Milhaud's performance. AF can provide a program with signatures. AF thought ESC knew about the two-year contract with PAQ. The quartet had a very successful tour this year and AF hopes to have an even more successful tour next year. Five concerts have already been arranged and AF expects to arrange several more. AF regrets that ESC will not be assisting them next year. She thought she could arrange concerts at universities such as Mount Holyoke College and Smith College. AF has arranged a performance at Cornell University for 3/4/1937. She anticipated that the quartet would arrive during February or March and stay in the States as long as necessary. According to AF, PAQ does not handle press announcements at all, and has missed many opportunities to perform. AF saw PAQ in concert last night and reckons they'll meet again this afternoon as they start a program for NBC Music Guild at noon. AF also hopes the quartet will play in Washington at William Strunk's. If the ESC ends their collaboration, the quartet will have to settle for a lower salary. There is another quartet in the United States called Pro Arte, which has many complications. AF asked if it would be possible to arrange a name change. AF hopes to arrange Frank Mannheimer and Antonio Brosa concerts at Yale and Harvard next year. They plan to perform the sonatas they dedicated to the ESC. FM is currently in the US but will not be coming to the coasts. AF promises to let the ESC know of any engagements for PAQ within a month.
