Content and physical description
ContentPavel Deutsch refers to Cardinal Verdier as a great friend of his native country and draws his attention to "our greatest contemporary Czech composer, B. Martinů", who is now in Paris. Martinů's music is simple in its means, but very impressive, and by its inner strength is capable of 'bringing erring souls to religious life'. His opera PLAYS OF MARY, which resembles the plays of Pasha, is a work that this century needs and deserves the Cardinal's patronage. Not only for its musical qualities, but also for its high religious spirit. The work would certainly do much good if it were performed throughout France. France would thus make good her debt in recognizing a Czech composer whose works are now banned in Bohemia.
