ContentThe text is the minutes of a meeting held on 25 May 1954 at the Ministry of Culture. The meeting discussed the reply to Bohuslav Martinů's letter [addressed to SNKLHU] of 14 May 1954.
SNKLHU is the legal successor of the dissolved publishing houses Melantrich, Orbis, etc. The contracts which BM had concluded with these publishing houses are transferred to it.
Dr Novotný's proposal for a reciprocal agreement between SNKLHU and Boosey & Hawkes was accepted. According to this agreement, SNKLHU could cede to B&H the publishing rights to BM's works [ŠPALÍČEK and JULIETTE] (if they are in Czechoslovakia) for the area outside Europe, and would itself have sub-publishing rights in Europe to works published by B&H. SNKLHU will draft a letter to the composer and to B&H by 28 May 1954. The draft will be discussed at a meeting on the same day. It must be drafted before Artie's representative Matěj Šenar leaves for Geneva (29 May 1954).
Breitkopf & Härtel is interested in sub-publishing rights to BM works for Germany. Shenar should wait to negotiate this matter until an agreement with Boosey & Hawkes is reached.
