Content and physical description
ContentThe writer has just learned from Fritz Oeser that the interests of Bärenreiter and Alkor-Edition intersect. Paul Sacher had decided some time ago to bring Bohuslav Martinů into contact with Bärenreiter. Last week in Basel, PS unexpectedly handed over a number of the composer's instrumental works and the opera MIRANDOLINA to the writer at the request of BM (who now has to undergo surgery). FO remembered that Vojtěch Strnad had mentioned the opera in connection with JULIETTA. It is a charming piece in the style of [Verdi's] Falstaff, light, singable and interestingly instrumented; no wonder Schott was interested in it. However, Schott has let the composer down on other matters, so BM is pleased at the prospect of working with Bärenreiter.
Dilia, Alkor and Bärenreiter thus found themselves in an unexpected situation, all expressing an interest in owning the opera. The writer now knows of Dilia's interest and is willing to work with her to enable her to stage a performance in the CSR without foreign exchange costs. The condition is, of course, the composer's consent.
The writer asks VS to propose a solution so that he can incorporate it into the contract and forward it to Sacher. BM has apparently been with VS for a year and has entrusted all legal negotiations to him.
