ContentBohuslav Martinů thanks Hans Heinz Stuckenschmidt for his letter and regrets that he could not be with them at the performance of JULIETTE [in Wiesbaden on 25 January 1959]. It was a great success. BM would have been happy if HS had staged a repeat performance on 31 Jan 1959. He would have seen a completely different Juliette, wilder and more surreal. BM was very pleased with the change in the characters, it is no longer "a charming story" but a scary story that holds you from the beginning to the last chord.
