Content and physical description
ContentJaroslav Dostalík answers Miloš Šafránek's question that Bohuslav Martinů was asked by the children of the Children's Choir to compose a capella children's choirs. The Children's Choir had previously sung part of the SPALICE. Earlier in the year, BM sent them SONGS FOR THE CHILDREN'S CHOIR. JD transcribed the lyrics of all three songs in the letter. All JD knows from Frant[isek] Lýsek about the chorus BIRD HODES is that it is set to an "old manuscript monument of explicitly religious content" and that the text of the composition was sent to BM by J[an] Trojan from Brno radio. The first performances of the SONGS were single performances of "Children's Riddles" given on 25 June 1959 in Prague, "Easter" given on 2 February 1960 in Ostrava, and the third song "Smith" has not yet been performed. The collective premiere will take place on 17 April 1960 in Brno.
