Content and physical description
ContentJosef Schieszl does not like to turn himself in on personal matters, but he feels obliged to take this step. In the near future, he will be filling the position left by [Josef] Suk. There is talk of Jaroslav Křička and Rudolf Karl. JS received a letter today from someone who protects R. Karl and who complained that Dr. [Alice] Masaryk is protecting Křička. JS does not understand music and cannot judge who is the most capable, but it seems to him that Bohuslav Martinů, whose name is not among the candidates, is being hurt. He feels that BM, living in Paris in straitened circumstances and supported by the President [T.G. Masaryk], should come into consideration. In 1932 he had the opportunity to observe his work and it seems to him that he is a purely Czech artist enveloped by the world musical current, a conscientious but unselfish man who cannot take care of himself. He has already spoken about him with Minister Jan Krčmář. He therefore asks Zdeněk Wirth to consider from the musical and social point of view (easing the existence of a worthy person when other candidates have their existence secured) the possibility of calling BM from Paris.
