ContentOtakar Ostrčil sends Karel Kovařovic an evaluation of Bohuslav Martinů's ballet STIN for the National Theatre: OO describes the plot of the ballet. The dance of the girl until the appearance of the Shadow is 60 pages of the score, the dance with the Shadow until the arrival of Death is 70 pages - it is impossible for anyone to endure dancing or watching it. The music is unremarkable, showing signs of unmotivated archaising and technical primitiveness, the transitions between numbers are also primitive, harmonic enlivenment is achieved by immediate couplings of distant triplets, the orchestration is simple and unartistic with excessive use of piano and celesta. The work cannot be recommended for performance in the National Theatre.
