Content and physical description
ContentBohuslav Martinů has finished DIVERTIMENTO and sends the score together with a letter. BM points out that the piano is treated in a chamber manner, without unnecessary bravura. If Otakar Hollmann wanted to perform the work in Prague, he could be assisted by Mr. J. Vorgl [presumably Jaroslav Vogel], who intends to play Martinů's NONET [No. 1]. DIVERTIMENTO has a new, modern sound, although it seems almost classical. If OH wants to modify anything in the piano part, especially in the solo passages, he is to change anything according to his disposition. BM points out that the first movement is really Allegro moderato, so rather slower, otherwise the character would change to scherzando. The work is not intended to be dramatic or ideological in any way. It lasts about 20 minutes. OH is to write any changes directly into the score. BM deliberately leaves the piano in one position so that it can rather stand out in places where it is needed. BM encloses a cheque and looks forward to OH's report.
