Content and physical description
ContentBM apologizes for the late reply to the addressee's letter [dated 11.3.1932] and thanks Jan Kunc for his help in applying for the prize with the composition Festive Overture to the All-Sokol Meeting. He describes the composition as occasional but well written, and goes on to explain his conception of restrained solemnity 'without great fanfare and unnecessary smoke', which he applied in this composition. He expresses concern that this piece will cause a misunderstanding with his publisher Schott. He is not yet determined to accept a position as professor of composition at the Brno Conservatory and is concerned about the lack of time to compose. Encouraged by Schott, he would prefer to stay in Paris and devote himself exclusively to composition, despite his precarious financial situation. He announces that on 18 March [1932] he conducted with great success A. Cortot the premiere of the dances [Ronda H.200], which were dedicated to the addressee. BM is pleased with their performance and remarks that they are "a bit brutal" for a French audience. After finding a publisher for them, he sends them to the addressee. He offered Pazdirk an unspecified manuscript of his piano pieces in exchange for the national Moravian songs that Pazdirk sent him. He asks the addressee to urge Pazdírek to comment.
