ContentSzell is sorry that Martinů is having trouble writing the score because of a cramp in his hand. Aging is simply not nice, he has problems himself. Szell had a look at the SCALA and realised that it again had that wonderful orchestral sound like the FRESKY PIERA DELLA FRANCESCA, which they had played many times on European tours with great success.
Too bad Martinů won't be in the US for the premiere of SKALA. He need not worry about the score; Mr. Schlee [of UE] has promised a clean and well-corrected copy. Regarding the metronome markings, Szell will listen to Martinů and follow his feeling.
