Content and physical description
ContentSzell thanks for the letter and attachments. FRESKY PIERA DELLA FRANCESCA are doing well, they are touring with the Cleveland Orch. and will also be at the Prague Spring Festival in May. In FRESKI the coda could be more effective. Could Martinů focus on the final movement in the next piece [SKÁLA]? Szell thanks for the offer of a dedication of [SKÁLA] and suggests the wording, "To George Szell and the Cleveland Orchestra" and mention of the Cleveland Orch commission. As for the program of the piece, Szell thinks it is good, but the music is what is important, not the program.
They [SKALY] can't bring the material from Prague because they are already short of space. Moreover, he doubts that the material will be ready on 25 May when Martinů has not even finished the composition. He would like at least two, more likely three, scores by 1 July, and the material by 15 September.
