Dear Mr Merritt,

Thank you for your letter, I am happy you accepted my propositions for String quartet and I am looking with great pleasure for your book, thank you so much. I asked for the conditions only to know if I am free as to dedication.

Now I am not sure about something which happened in the notice of New York Times, Music Section, last Sunday, my name is not mentioned with composers chosen by Harvard University. I cannot understand it and I hope, nothing is changed in your plans concerning my string quartet.

I consider your project very important and am extremely happy to participate with my composition.

In the past my name was often omitted in N.Y. Times, but in these case I would not allow it to passé unnoticed. Would you please let me know what is all about and make necessary correction in N.Y. Times.

I am now slowly recovering, but I hope to be with you in May.

Very sincerely,

yours

B. Martinu
