Content and physical description
ContentThe postponement of Bohuslav Martinů's opera was surprising and disappointing; the performance of [PLAYS ABOUT MARY] in Prague will probably not be possible this season. He has no news from Brno, he will write there again about [Jindřich] Honzl. The production will be difficult, like everything, if it is to be as BM imagines it. Thanks to the postponement he will be able to be present. BM still wants to outline to František Muzik how he envisages the expedition, but FM need not be distracted by this if he has his own idea. BM describes in detail his ideas for the sets and costumes for each part of the opera: for Virgo, austere sets; for Mariken, primitive to vulgar; for Nativity, beautiful colours in a large area; for Pascaline, as simple as possible. BM's postponement of the premiere has spoiled his financial plans, and in addition, the material for the opera will be in Brno during his stay in Prague, so it will not be possible to stage it.
