Content and physical description
ContentBohuslav Martinů writes about the arrangements in the Sonata [No. 3] - he gives specific places + attaches music samples:
"p. 3 is B in cello, C in piano" [apparently this is bar 42, which he also mentions in the following letter],
"p. 36 rhythm is quarter with dot + three eighths" [this is bar 91 in the third movement],
"p. 37 the correction is good - a C major chord, not just the octave C-c" [bar 111, 3rd movement. It's more comfortable to play].
Coda in the first movement: 'Now I just don't know what to do with the octave you suggest on p. 20, of course the lower C is soulless, but with the octave it'll probably boom, won't it? Perhaps better to just take the top C, it may vibrate and end up at the bottom as you suggest. Decide for yourself."
BM asks how it was received in Polička and hopes the concert was nice; wishes for Christmas and the New Year; adds his new N.Y. address.
