Content and physical description
ContentPaul Sacher thanks Bohuslav Martinů for his letter of 2.4. In the following week (or a little later) he will send him his score of the EPOS ON GILGAMES for proofreading. Sacher's second copy of the score is in the Universal Edition. They can't do without it there because they have to get the material out quickly.
BM's idea of an "action" (semi-scenic) performance of EPOS ON GILGAMES is probably unfeasible in Basel. PS can only perform the work as a concert oratorio. Half-concert and half-theatre performances, such as were attempted in Vienna, for example, have never been satisfactory and, according to the PS, cannot be.
It is necessary to engage solo singers for each role, and not to look for soloists among the members of the choir. Is it possible to entrust the small alto solo and the part of the narrator to one of the other soloists?
The premiere is scheduled for 23 and 24 January 1958 and will take place in Basel. Will BM be able to attend?
Maja Sacher will try to obtain the prospectus of the "maison préfabriquée" and send it to the addressee.
PS and MS greet the addressee and Charlotte Martinů.
