Content and physical description
ContentBohuslav Martinů received today from Universal Edition a piano extract for the EPOS ON GILGAMEŠ. But they did not send him the complete score ["full score"]. He asked them to send it to him immediately. He will make the corrections as soon as possible. Apparently there are not many mistakes. The UE said that they had also sent the piano extract to Paul Sacher. BM will write to him about the corrections when he has the score.
The piece should not be performed statically like an oratorio, but should be something between a concerto and an opera. Some movement should be allowed for soloists and chorus within the confines of a concert performance, but not to the extent of an opera. Soloists should address each other where necessary and not so much the audience. The chorus must also participate in the action and not be static. The epic needs to be set in motion; it was certainly originally performed as a folk play. All this is of course only subtly, just to create the illusion that something is happening. The piece is dramatic and needs to be performed in that spirit.
Score.
Charlotte Martinů asks Maja Sacher to send her the prospectus of the "maisons préfabriquées".
