Content and physical description
ContentPaul Sacher informs Bohuslav Martinů that he received a telegram from him on 11 July. PS replied to him by telegram sent to the address of the Czechoslovak Embassy in Washington. PS quotes both telegrams; in his reply he promised the composer that he would premiere DVOJKONCERT in Paris.
Meanwhile, PS had received a letter from BM dated 17 June. He therefore asked the composer for more precise information about the planned concert. He will be very happy to conduct the DVOJKONCERT in Paris. He performed it with great success in Zurich and Winterthur during the war, and has also suggested that he include it in his concert in Brussels in the following season.
PS is in contact with the publishers Boosey & Hawkes. He will follow the composer's instructions regarding the score. He may be able to conduct the Double Concerto in London.
PS heard SYMPHONY No 1 on the radio conducted by Ernest Ansermet, it is an excellent work.
They [he and Maja Sacher] are happy that the composer is doing well and that he is having success in America. They thought of him often during the war and look forward to seeing him in Europe. In Switzerland they all survived the war safely. Sending them the packages BM offered was not necessary.
