Content and physical description
ContentBohuslav Martinů informs Paul Sacher that he has completed the violin concerto [CONCERTO DA CAMERA] and that he is sending the manuscript to New York today, from where it will be delivered to the addressee via Victor Nef. PS is to acknowledge receipt of the parcel. BM has been delayed by making a copy himself and also by attending the Berkshire Festival.
BM has proofread the score, there should be no errors. The shifts in the solo part are not definite, just marking phrases. PS can make changes if necessary. He may also intervene in parts that are too difficult or where fingering would be inappropriate. The BM will also go over the score with the violinist.
BM has spoken to [Ralph?] Hawkes of the London office of Boosey & Hawkes who is interested in this work.
BM has added cymbals and triangle to the 3rd movement, hopefully this will not cause complications.
Strings should always play divisi, not "doppelgrifs" unless specifically stated. Dynamic nuances are to be adjusted by PS during rehearsals. BM would like to dedicate the work to BKO, and as a second possibility he mentions a dedication to Maja Sacher.
BM is still thinking about the cantata he would like to dedicate to MS.
PS is to write his opinion on CONCERTO DA CAMERA. It is the writer's first composition from America, he had trouble concentrating on it.
They [with Charlotte Martinu] are still in Edgartown. PS has until Sept. 15 to write there and then to the old address.
