Content and physical description
ContentBohuslav Martinů immediately replies to Karel Šebánek's letter of 7 September 1954. He explains that he was only describing his ideas about a 'possible' performance or publication, which cannot be taken seriously until something is agreed on firmly. As for MIRANDOLINA, BM is with Boosey & Hawkes - and therefore they have the right to dispose of the work. BM can't send the score to have material made in Prague and borrowed, KS knows that. B&H will give the work to a paying theatre and certainly won't give the premiere to Prague. However, BM would be happy to have the work performed there, which is why he tried to get a contract between B&H and Prague. If the [National?] theatre is interested in the opera, they must ask B&H, just as BM tried to get permission for JULIETTE! Regarding the publication of other works in Prague, everything depends on whether it will be possible to get BM's fee and all the materials across the border. He writes these things out in the open so that someone won't say that BM doesn't want to accommodate them. BM asks KS to send the male choirs of Leoš Janáček, and possibly Vítězslav Novák, if he has any. He would need them soon enough. KS should also send a copy of BM's contract with Melantrich.
